Part 1
With reference to the Fact sheet: Continuing professional development on the NMBA website and the frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding context of nursing available.
Investigate a graduate nurse program that you are interested in. Please describe 2 contexts of practice where you anticipate undertaking your GNP (the same location will be used in part 2). For the purposes of this assignment, we will assume you will work in this practice context, rotating each 6 months for the GNP year and the following year. Describe the venue and the types of nursing work that you will be required to undertake if you received your first choice of venue and GNP rotations (Medical, Surgical, Mental Health, Primary Care, Community, Paediatric etc) use each of the criteria in the fact sheet.
Part 2
Using the graduate nurse program that you are interested in from part 1, describe 6 learning opportunities that the program will provide in the first year and why (rationale) they are important to you as a new Registered Nurse. These learning opportunities needs to represent 2 clinically focussed learning outcomes, 2 organisational learning outcomes and 2 professional learning outcomes. An organisational learning outcome would include the mandatory education that nurses need to complete, whereas a professional learning outcome would include something related to professional behaviour.
Please describe this learning in terms of what you will learn not what the graduate program provides.
For example, Northern Health provide a comprehensive graduate orientation. You will learn from this the fire and evacuation procedures specific to the Northern Health campus you are allocated to. This would include the alarm system tones and how to evacuate a non-ambulant patient. This is an example of an organisational outcome. A clinically focussed outcome may be a skill or procedure that is patient focussed. A professional learning outcome example could be a communication goal
Part 3
Having reviewed the NMBA CPD Fact sheet and using the format of the sample template for documenting CPD available in Appendix 1 on the NMBA website
please document a proposed 20 hours of CPD tasks representing the graduate year and 20 more hours representing the following year completing all 9 columns of the template. You may estimate dates in the next two years (2024 and 2025). Pay attention to the
requirements for mandatory training outlined in the guidelines and consider the increasing learning needs you are likely to experience in your second year of practice. No individual task can be longer than 8 hours.
