You are an editor of a faith-based research journal. Your organization has policies and a culture that attempts to align with Scripture. Your organization also has a policy that if an author purposely misrepresents or does not include pertinent information in order to misinform the reader, the submission is automatically rejected
You receive a submission and immediately realize that major assumptions were not addressed in the analysis. You reach out to the author and inquire about the missing information. The author admits to you that he purposely left out any references to assumptions that did not support the findings. He justifies his actions by claiming that the findings to his study support the Christian cause and that by including the missing assumptions, it could weaken the research on the Christian faith. In other words, the end (supporting the Christian faith) justifies the mean (removing parts of the research that weakens the findings).
You inform him that his submission has been rejected based on the organization’s policy. He responds that he is willing to add all the necessary assumptions into the submission if you are willing to show grace and reconsider his submission.
Ultimately, it is your decision. Do you show grace and reconsider his submission (giving him the benefit of the doubt in his new submission that everything is reported and accurate) or do you remain faithful to your organization’s policy (trusting that the policy was created to protect the organization)?
Your response to this prompt should be 200-300 words. Scripture should be used throughout your post to support your decision.
