Sylien, and I was born and raised in Haiti. As someone who experienced
first-hand the life-altering effects of receiving a quality education while
growing up in a new country, I can testify to the importance of good education.
My parents never got to complete their college degrees, but they always
stressed the value of education to me and my siblings. While in High school, I
faced various difficulties that challenged my education experience, but with
the support of my counselor, who recognized my potential, I could graduate.After having a positive
encounter with a kind and committed school counselor, I decided to make helping
others my life’s work. My current position at Lake worth Community High School as a social service facilitator
allows me to get to know kids on a deeper level and support them when they
confront obstacles—having seen personally the transformation that counseling
can bring to the lives of children since I currently work as social service
facilitators, which has encouraged me to continue my education in this field.
