The
best analyses involve thinking. You’re not just searching for topic
sentences but taking it all in as you would information and ideas in
conversation and then finding your own way of saying what seems to be at
the heart of the argument. A summary becomes critical when you assess
the arguments and respond to them (you are NOT simply to summarize the
article):
Define your position in relation to that presented.
Explore any reasons for agreement and disagreement between you and the author.
Evaluate both your assumptions and your own position in terms of that presented.
