Write a research-driven essay that explores what we’ve learned in the last few years about storytelling in the #metoo era.
Who tells their stories of sexual assault and why?
Why do victims of sexual harassment and assault often not speak out?
Whose stories hold the most power and persuasion? Why do some stories matter more than others?
What flaws in the system perpetuate silence and keep abusers in power?
How can we balance the need for truth and exposure with the need for balance and fairness? How do we prevent false accusations and overreactions?
Choose some of the above questions to help you focus your research and generate a thesis claim.
Essay Requirements:
Generate ideas and analysis from either She Said or Know My Name. Your essay should include at least four quotes from your chosen source. You are welcome to use both, but that might mean you’re writing a longer essay.
Incorporate ideas from at least one other source from your assigned readings in this unit.
Find and incorporate ideas from one other credible outside source that you find on your own.
Use a thesis claim to shape the focus of the essay and generate a contestable argument.
Your essay should offer a balance of quotes and your own analytical commentary. This is not a simple research essay. There should be a strong sense of “you” in it. You need to take the ideas and information and shape it to fit your focused argument. Do not simply summarize the material.
Employ multiple style techniques that create sophisticated and clear sentence-level writing (including a netting). Be creative with the way you present your ideas. Pay attention to your quoting technique.
Engage the reader with an engaging introduction and a non-repetitive conclusion.
Follow MLA format including a Works Cited Page
