W‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌rite a critical book review of Stephen K. Medvic’s In Defense of Politicians: The Expectations Trap and Its Threat To Democracy.
The book review must contain the following elements:
-A very concise summary of Medvic’s overarching argument (200 words or less).
-A critical evaluation of his argument. The Writing Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill published an excellent guide to writing book reviews (attached in uploaded documents.).
-They define a critical evaluation as “your reactions to the work under review: what strikes you as noteworthy, whether or not it was effective or persuasive, and how it enhanced your understanding of the issues at hand.”
-A statement of whether you generally agree or disagree with Medvic.
-An example (if you generally agree with Medvic) or a counterexample (if you generally disa‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌gree) of a recent political controversy that supports or contradicts the argument.
Recent refers to anything in the past 5 years.
DIRECTIONS:
Journal entries will be between 3 ½ and 4 pages in length and will be submitted on Canvas. The correct formatting is double-spaced, 12-point font in Times New Roman typeface, and 1” margins in MS Word.
A reference page is required.
Each journal entry must include the following four (4) basic components:
Touches on each element of the prompt.
Utilizes one of the philosophical-logical or values-based frameworks covered in the course.
Contains a central argument that is backed up with evidence and relevant to the prompt.
Is intelligible and easy to read/compreh‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌end.
