Assignment Instructions
Ethical principles are of utmost importance for nurse practitioners because they direct your practice.
Review the “Values and Ethics Competencies” (found in Box 11.10 on p. 372 of Hamric & Hanson’s Advanced Practice Nursing: An Integrative Approach).
Review the Code of Ethics for Nurses from the American Nurses Association.
Identify an ethical issue you would face as a nurse practitioner.
Prepare an 18- to 20-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (inclusive of title and reference slides) with speaker notes—titled “Ethical Dilemma”—that presents your chosen ethical issue to your organization’s board of ethics and includes your recommended solution and possible policy change. Include the following:
• Describe your selected ethical dilemma.
• Consider whether implicit bias can affect this ethical dilemma.
• Include any possible legal implications.
• Identify which provision of the nursing code of ethics would be violated based on the selected ethical dilemma.
• Discuss the important steps needed to provide ethical care.
• Describe how the code of ethics and the values and ethics competencies could be used to address the selected ethical issue.
• Discuss specific possible solutions to the dilemma¬.
• Discuss how you would raise awareness among other providers and staff in your workplace about the selected ethical dilemma.
Include a minimum of 3 current (within the last 5 years) references to support your assessment.
Cite your references according to current APA guidelines.
