Wk 3 Assignment: Short Paper 1 – Three Individual Rights or Institutional Features that Support a Democratic Society to Flourish (1000 words, APA)
Given a “minimalist” definition of modern democracy as a political system in which a polity regularly chooses (and replaces) its leaders through a contested yet peaceful process, identify three individual rights or institutional features that you think are essential for a democratic society to flourish, and discuss (i) why they are essential and (ii) how they can become endangered. How does one reconcile individual rights and freedoms with the responsibilities of living in an organized and civil society?
Your paper should identify at least three sources of information (which can include assigned material). Of course, all citations to outside work must be properly attributed.
