Login to the server remotely

While you login to your Ubuntu server on VM, it will be local login (TTY access). It will be very small and unfriendly to use for most people. We can connect to the server remotely via SSH connection:

Windows: you can use CMD or PowerShell. Run the ssh client and login into the server:
MacOS: use the macOS terminal and use the same ssh client command in above You can find the terminal app on the Mac “Utilities” menu when you click on the Applications launcher. We will be using it a lot during the semester, so you might want to choose Options->Keep In Dock from the right-click menu on the app icon in the dock.

The server already has an SSH server (we installed it via Ubuntu Server installation). Login locally (via VM) and use the following commands to update the meta database and find the server’s IP addresses:

Sudo apt update
Hostname

Now you can connect to your VM using a remote terminal. Use the second IP address that was displayed by the hostname -I command on the console of your VM. If you get asked to confirm connecting to the server for the first time, enter yes. Now you have a remote connection to your server.
