With this in mind, write an analysis essay that considers how the various characters of the play exemplify or challenge notions of masculinity and femininity as defined by the play and/or the period in which it was produced. For example, you might consider why female sexuality is something male characters strive to control. How, in other words, is male identity contingent upon the regulation of female sexuality? What does this mean for the male and female characters respectively?
