2. Depression
3. Unrealistic expectations
1. I struggle with prioritizing my work to include college and regular day to day activities.
2. Depression is something that has interfere with my daily activities.
3. Dealing with issues and not being realistic with what is going on in your life and the challenges you face can be detrimental.
1. How are procrastination and depression linked?
2. How can I help others manage their depression?
I selected this topic because everyone can benefit from it, especially veterans from all branches of service.
1. Explain how procrastination and depression have impacted my life negatively.
2. Tools I have used before and continue to use in order to counteract those feelings and emotions.
As an Active Duty Soldier, I struggle with depression, PTSD, anxiety, and many other things that make my day-to-day activities a bit challenge than other people. After each deployment to Afghanistan, I never came back home the same. I felt as if each time I left a piece of myself back there. During the medical assessments that all Soldiers must go through after they return from theater, I was diagnose with PTSD and depression, but I put it on the backburner because I thought I could cope with it and that it was not important. Little did I know that years later those diagnosis will manifest themselves in ways I could not understand.
Being depressed is something that I have dealt with for a while. As a man and especially a Soldier, we tend to not talk about our feelings or block them, so we do not show sign of weakness. I constantly fight with myself to do tasks and activities that I once enjoy and loved; from working out faithfully, being fully engage in college classes and the one that stuck the most with me, spending time with my loved ones (wife and kids). You may ask yourself what procrastination has to do with depression, but they go hand to hand. When people are depressed, they often lose interest in activities they normally enjoy. This can lead to procrastination about even fun activities. Even if the person thinks they might like to attend an event, they may hesitate about committing due to fear they won’t feel up to it when the time rolls around (Boyes, 2019).
Do you believe that depression and procrastinating go hand to hand?
