Hallmarks of Primary Research Discussion
As a STEM student, you will read lots of literature; textbooks, review articles, primary research articles, editorials, letters to the editor, encyclopedias, Wikipedia. The most important of these is the primary research article. You will read these in your classes, and use them to write papers and give oral presentations on the information found in these articles.
What is a primary research article and how are primary research articles distinguished from other kinds of literature? That is the question you will answer in this assignment.
Your assignment is to discuss the features common to primary research articles. Using the Gillen publication, Reading Primary Literature, other similar publications, and internet sites, discuss the features that identify an article as primary research. Please note that many articles that are not primary research articles do have some of the features of primary research articles. Please try to focus on the features unique to primary research.
