Week 3 (Thursday, May 26): Essay Component 4 Preliminary Supporting Arguments
• Provide at least two supporting arguments for your claim
• Explain clearly how each argument supports your claim and provide scholarly evidence to back your arguments up
• These arguments will make up the main body of your essay and will be based on the literature you have been reviewing up till now
• ~250 – 500 words per argument
Week 4 (Tuesday, May 31): Essay Component 5 Preliminary Counterclaims
• Present at least one counterclaim (with arguments and evidence to support each)
• Provide a rebuttal to each counterclaim using scholarly evidence
• Your counterclaims can address your supporting arguments AND/OR they can directly address your primary claim
• ~250 – 500 words per counterclaim + rebuttal
Week 4 (Thursday, June 2): Essay component 6 Preliminary Introduction & Context
• Write a brief introduction to your essay.
• Explain what your topic is about and present your primary claim. Explain to the reader why it is important/worth investigating.
• Try to place your issue within a context, historical and otherwise. Why is it important? What has been said about it? Why is it controversial?
• ~500 words
