Watch No Country for Old Men . Identify a scene that you think uses sound an interesting way. The scene MUST have sound effects in it (SFX), not just music. Now list and describe the timbre of each of the various sound elements:
Ambiance
Sound effects
Dialogue
Music
Once you have listed and described the various sounds that occur throughout the scene, do a short write up on the following topics:
Part 1 – Explore the themes in the film (as usual)
Part 2 – List each sound and briefly describe its timbre
Part 3 – Describe the texture, mood, and emotion that permeates your chosen scene
Part 4 – Do a rundown of how you feel each of the sounds you described in the lists above contributes to either the mood of the scene or the overall goals of the film (with dialogue, don’t worry so much about what is said, instead focus on HOW it is said – how the delivery is a kind of sound unto itself. Consider sonic elements such as rhythm, volume, pitch, and of course the timbre of each sound how it creates the emotional texture you described in part

Clarity and organization of your sound list / breakdown; 5 points
Completeness and accuracy of your analysis: 10 points
