For your topic paper, you should choose a nutrition topic of your own interest. Listed are some sample topics below that can help you get started thinking. However, you can choose whatever interests you – (with the exception of diabetes.) Within this course you have most likely thought about subjects that you would like to know more about. You might look at personal interests or parts of your life you would like to make better through good nutrition. How about children and family, sports, weight loss/gain, etc. Look at medical conditions that relate directly to nutrition, etc. Remember that this course is a nutrition course and the paper must be nutrition or nutrition related. For example, if you write about a disease, the paper must be focused on the nutrition related to that disease. You may ask me about the topic if you want to make sure your topic is acceptable.
Complete internet research on the topic you selected. You are to use 3 or more internet sources for your paper. Do not use your text and do not use Wikipedia. You will need to provide “direct quotes” from some of the sources you use. List the source immediately after the direct quote in parentheses. Refrain from using large quotes, the majority of your paper should be in your own words. Be sure to correctly list each source so that it can be easily found on the web. Also, list all sources at the end of your paper. You may use MLA or APA reference style.

Your paper needs to be AT LEAST 3 pages of text, double spaced. This means 3 full pages not including menus, references, charts, etc.
The font must be either Times New Roman – 12 point, or Arial – 12 point, double-spaced.
Please provide a Title Page (in addition to the body of the paper.)
Not only will you provide a summary of your research, you must critically evaluate and assess what you have found. There is much good and bad information on the internet and you must learn which is which. The quality of your work will determine your grade. A major portion of the paper should be your own words, opinion, reaction, etc. to the information you gathered. How will you use this information personally or in nursing practice?
Just doing the minimum will not merit full points. You will be submitting under the Assignment as an attachment for this specific assignment. Be sure to be thorough.
Your paper will be automatically sent through Turnitin as an originality check. You will be able to see the report and the % match given. Anything over 25% needs to be reviewed and modified as needed. The quotes and references of course will show up as matches. Other than that, there should not be any large matches. The majority of your paper should be written in your own words.
In addition to submitting your paper, you are required to post it under the most appropriate heading in the Discussion section so fellow students may read your paper. The Topic Paper Discussion Forum will open on the Wednesday evening prior to the assignment due date. ( Please post it as an attachment) You are also required to read at least 3 of your fellow classmate’s papers and “discuss” them on the forum discussion board. After reading some of your classmate’s papers post a least one question to two different students on the discussion board located in the “Discussion” section/tab. If you are asked a question you are required to respond to it. Please read all postings and “discuss” these topics, you may get involved in any discussion that you have comments about but please keep all discussions appropriate.This part is required and worth ~30% of your assignment grade.
You must be careful about your sources. The Highlight in Chapter 1 has some great information on finding credible information on the internet. Be very suspicious about commercial articles that encourage you to buy anything. Your sources should be appropriate for a college level course although they do not have to be from professional journals. You must carefully provide your source. That means the entire URL plus the title of the article. List all your sources at the end of your paper. Use APA or MLA style for reference information. Do not just list the “American Heart Association”, etc. Sources must be specific.
