After reading the linked articles about psychologists’ involvement in torture, and reading Section 1 of the code, which includes several standards that are relevant to the conflict between ethics and the law, write a 1 1/2 to 2 pg. (double-spaced) response paper discussing your informed perspective on the torture controversy. You will want to address the ethical implications of psychologists’ involvement in interrogations, the ethical ramifications of APA’s various actions around this issue, and how the ethics code (particularly some of the standards in Section 1) should guide the behavior of psychologists in such situations. DON’T summarize the articles. Focus on applying the ethics code and explaining why, based on the code, you think the psychologists’ and APA’s actions were unacceptable, and discussing your thoughts on the updated APA policy from the perspective of the Ethics code.
