The individual term paper will ask each student to write a paper on any of the topics we have
discussed in class. The goal of this paper is to take the ideas present in a decision-making process
and explicate how they are important to a specific domain/topic area/profession. For example,
you could write about how the elements of the Lens Model (e.g., cues/indicators, ecological
validities, cue utilization, etc.) could be used in politics to select satisfactory candidates for
office.
The paper should be at least 5 pages long (double-spaced; excluding references), should apply at
least one decision-making model/method/theory to a real-world topic area, should discuss
practical implications, and should include at least five references to well-established sources.
(e.g., trustworthy new sources)/scientific studies (e.g., journal articles). You can find these
sources on sites like Google Scholar or a computer database (e.g., PsycINFO). The references
should be in American Psychological Association (APA) format.
Milestone Assignment (20% of final grade) – This assignment asks students to: (a) identify their
topic of interest, (b) write a paragraph on what they plan to write about this topic, (c) provide a
rough 1-page outline of the term paper, and (d) provide an annotated bibliography of at least five
references that they plan on using in their final paper.
For this portion of the term paper, you will identify your topic of interest. You should submit:
A description of decision-making topic you are interested in researching. What do you
want to know about in more depth?
A brief (~150-250 word) description of how you intend to research its origin and its
evolution. How do you plan on researching this topic? Where will you pull sources?
A rough 1-page outline of the term paper. – How will the final paper be structured? Use
bullets and short sentences to begin building the flow of your argument.
An annotated bibliography of at least 5 sources. – Provide a list of 5 initial sources that
you have used to begin your research.
Submit all information in a Word document.
