Some, like England, appropriated the already existing corporate interests of the East India Company on the Indian subcontinent, solidifying a now enlarged British Empire. Other states in central and western Europe looked to Africa and Asia, particularly during the late 1800s and the scramble for Africa. These relationships and power dynamics would have indelible historical ramifications.
