Add a paragraph about the audience you would address, and how you want listeners to
respond, in other words what you want them to feel and think. Be specific when you
describe this audience, e.g. “The audience at a TEDx Auckland convention”.
In another paragraph, describe your speech patterns, based on the material in lecture 4. Be
sure to include your speaking rate (words per minute).

It’s best to choose a mature, reasonably intelligent audience so that your depth of ideas
and use of words aren’t restricted.

Part 2: Speech (25 marks)
Write a speech on your topic. Check the timing and fluency by reading it out loud. Aim for
10 minutes (1200 to 1500 words).
Part 3: Analysis (10 marks)
Evaluate whether your speech demonstrates the range of techniques you have learned from
this course. In your view, what aspects of your speech ‘work’? What doesn’t (or might not)
‘work’? If you had unlimited time, how would you enhance the speech?
