Technological Paradox of Hackers Begetting Hackers

succurely

Types of Hacking
Hacking exploits private networks or digital devices such as computers, tablets, and smartphones to gain unauthorized access and control over computer security systems. As such, hackers gain illegal access to security systems through technical and computer skills for specific goals such as gaining fame by destroying computer systems, stealing money, and making networks inaccessible. However, hacking is not always committed for malicious intents. This essay will differentiate white hat hackers from black hat hackers and discuss hacking methods, motivations, and ethics.
The main difference between black hat hackers and white hat hackers is motivation. White hat hackers (ethical/good hackers) exploit computer networks and systems to identify security breaches/flaws and make recommendations for rectifications (Banda et al., 2019). On the contrary, black hat hackers are criminals that breach computer systems/networks with malicious intentions. In this case, white hat hackers identify network weakness and corresponding updates to prevent black hat hackers from accessing computer systems/networks illegally.
Notably, hackers use different methods to crack computer and network systems. For instance, phishing attempts to steal users’ information by disguising malicious data as reliable communication. When users click on embedded attachments, malicious files are executed on their computers or networks. Secondly, bait and switch hacking methods trick users into visiting malicious sites. ClickJacking elements trick users into clicking web pages that allow hackers to take control of their computers and networks. Also, hackers use Trojans and viruses, malicious software to retrieve data from users’ computers illegally, and Key Logger software that exposes personal information to the hackers.
Hackers have different motivations. For instance, a primary motivation for hackers is the cash obtained from stealing passwords, bank details, and selling information to competitors in business. Hackers are also driven by challenges and opportunities to crack unbreakable security systems and gain recognition from peers. Other motivations entail hacking to embarrass a team of highly skilled IT experts, revenge, and achieve a sense of belonging to boast about their exploits on global scales. Of importance, hackers should be responsible and uphold ethical conduct in their activities. For instance, hackers should not use their skills for personal gains or cause harm. They should not overstep their skills and should not breach security to prove their expertise.
