Hello everyone,
Public Policy Intended to Decrease Climate Change
Globally, the outbreak of Covid-19 led to public polarization, almost in every country, if not all. However, the United States of America was the leading country with the highest public opinion divisiveness regarding how the government was handling the outbreak of the virus in the country. President Donald Trump was the president during the initial outbreak of the virus in the country, and he criticized China for having developed the virus. He adamantly refused to close international borders and addressed the public against wearing the facemasks. This was the most divisive debate that emerged in the country, where those who supported the government praised its actions while those who did not support the government criticized the measures taken (Aguirre, 2021).
The emergence of the virus from China was similar to any other viral disease; therefore, one cannot point fingers at who created the virus. Additionally, world health organization scientists, Chinese scientists, and American scientists did their best to understand the situation on what caused the outbreak. They asked the public globally to stay calm and for the government to put in place relevant measures to curb the spread of the epidemic. Therefore, it was not the government’s responsibility to cause public opinion divisiveness by publicly stating unscientific opinions. For instance, President Donald Trump caused an uproar after he suggested that it was good if the hospitals would use hydroxychloroquine, which was against the advice of scientists.
The public needs to know the truth regarding the outbreak and the spread of the epidemic. However, this information should not be even by the government, sin cue already the public are partisans, meaning those against it would consider the information to e propaganda (Mordecai, & Connaughton, 2020). Therefore, scientists and world health organizations should be responsible for addressing the public.
Media and, in particular, social media are the greatest roadblock to achieving the public consensus on how the government handled covid-19. Mainly on Twitter and Facebook, there was a lot of false information on the spread of the virus and the number of deaths, which caused public Punic (Aguirre, 2021).
