Deliverables:
There are TWO deliverables for this step of the project, and each is set up as a separate Assignment in Canvas – all deliverables must be submitted for a full grade.
This project is based on your final deliverable from DSIT 034. You are only required to modify your designs to achieve compliance, but this often offers an opportunity to improve the design so feel free to make other modifications as we progress.
The goal of the assignment is to indicate all Accessible Route requirements on your plans.
Requirements:
11×17 sized drawings executed in Revit and printed to color PDF and uploaded to Canvas. Drawings should include the project name, your full name, class name, and date. This part of the project is independent of previous parts and should be set up with NEW views and on NEW sheets (DO NOT override previously created views or sheets).
The information should be laid out on a SINGLE 11 x 17 sheet FOR EACH FLOOR of your project in Landscape orientation and contain:
Floor plan, scaled to fit each plan on a single page, with the accessible path of travel, required widths, door, and turnaround clearances indicated. DO NOT INCLUDE ANY OTHER ANNOTATIONS ON THE PLAN.
A legend explaining all symbols and annotations used, including the accessible path of travel, required widths, and door and turnaround clearances.
On the sheet with the ground-level floor, include a Google Earth image of the site and surrounding areas identifying FOUR points of site access and accessible route from each in different colored lines: by car (parking), by hired vehicle (drop-off), by walking (public sidewalk), and by public transportation (public transportation stop).
Process:
You have been assigned to a team for this class and should collaborate with your teammates to complete the assignment. Please complete the following steps before the final assignment submission:
Read the Assignment Instructions.
Meet with your group in class and review and compare your work. Please discuss:
Where are the four points of site access: by car, by hired vehicle, by walking, and by public transportation, and where are the accessible routes for each?
What is my accessible path of travel?
Can all facilities in my project be accessed by an accessible route?
Does my accessible route meet walking surface (slope and transition) requirements? Do I need to provide a ramp anywhere in the space?
Does my accessible route meet clear width clearance requirements?
Do all doors on my project have required clearances?
Am I providing a turnaround space throughout my project and in every enclosed room?
Create an exterior access route map using Google Earth. SITE ADDRESS: 4055 IRVING ST. Identify each point of access by note and show the accessible path of travel to each point of access in different colored dashed lines. Include a legend with the map.
Indicate the accessible path of travel on your floor plans. Include dimensions in any narrow sections to show you are providing minimum accessible route width, including at ramps (if any).
Add or modify ramps where necessary to comply with Division 4 – Accessible Routes of 2022 CBC.
Modify stairways where necessary to comply with Division 5 – General Site and Building Elements of 2022 CBC.
Indicate required door clearances at all doors and required turnaround spaces using blue dashed lines. Do not dimension clearances on the plan but show the dimensions in legend (see next step).
Create a legend to explain all annotations you made, the accessible path of travel, and dashed lines for door and turnaround clearances. Show dimensions for the clearances in the legend, not on the plan.
