Room’ by Emma Donaghue is one of the texts I have studied on the comparative course: English, Essay, OU, Ireland

Room’ by Emma Donaghue is one of the texts I have studied on the comparative course. The author uses an array of techniques to move the plot forward. The story is narrated by 5-year-old Jack. Jack and his Ma have been prisoners in Room, but they eventually escape.

The story then follows how they adjust to being back in the outside world, the world outside Room. The story is unique in that it is mainly told to us through the voice and perspective of a 5-year-old boy. Another technique employed by the author is symbolism, particularly teeth and television.

Throughout the course of this essay, I will explore how effectively the author uses these techniques to move the plot forward
