In Singer’s article, he describes the example of a child drowning in shallow water (page 20), in which you can save the child at the expense of ruining your shoes. He uses this example to argue that we are obligated to use our extra resources – be it money, energy, etc. – to help prevent others from suffering or dying, if we can do so without having to sacrifice anything of comparable moral value.
Your tasks: First, explain his argument (which occurs mainly between lines 9 and 51 on page 20); that is, explain how he uses the scenario involving the drowning child to argue that we are obligated to use any extra resources to help others. Second, take your own stance on his argument (agreeing or disagreeing) and defend that stance with your own reasons/arguments.
