Project 2 Prompt: Analysis/ Synthesis
When writing a research paper, you will find several sources that agree on some points and disagree on others. It’s the researcher’s job to synthesize sources and look to see where those sources intersect and interact with each other. For this paper, you will synthesize three sources that relate to one another in meaningful ways. Summary will be a key component in this paper as you’ll need to summarize the arguments and points of each source to connect them. The primary goal of this paper is to synthesize the material from three different sources to inform you audience. How are these articles (and videos, books, etc.) in conversation together? How do you react to the conversation? Why is this conversation important? You will create a thesis statement for this paper that informs your audience how these sources “talk” to each other.
Article Choices:
For this project, you will choose two articles from three provided by the instructor. All three articles are from peer-reviewed journals and have been evaluated as reliable sources for research. In addition to summarizing, synthesizing, and analyzing these two articles, you will individually find another source pertaining to the topic. This source can be another peer-reviewed article but it can also be a reliable video, article, book, podcast or other media source. After writing the paper, include a defense of your third source in the reflective cover letter and why you believe it’s a valuable, reliable source for inclusion.
Composition of the Paper:
This paper should be a balance between your voice and opinions as well as those of your sources. Think of this as your entry into research with analysis and synthesis. Set the stage for your audience in the introduction with context and an informative claim that shows the ideas within the articles. There will be a thesis but it will focus on what the authors in the sources say about the topic rather than your own argument.
The body paragraphs should include focused topics discussed in the sources as well as evidence and your own analysis of those sources to demonstrate the paragraphs’ topics. Remember to cite information and transition appropriately. What is your thesis? How do the articles connect? Where do they diverge? Why is this important?

1000-1250 words in the final revised paper
12 point, Times New Roman font
Double-spaced with one-inch margins

A working draft with peer edits
A reflective cover letter
MLA formatting
