Prior to participating in this Discussion Forum, please be sure you have carefully and critically read/reviewed p. 205-209 in Najat El Hachmi’s The Last Patriarch. If you are using an eBook version rather than print, then the scene is located in Part II, chapter 14 entitled “Love God and He will love you.”
Because I would like you to do a deep examination of this scene for this assignment, I encourage you to read the scene slowly a few times and take notes as you consider the prompt for this assignment. Also, review sections from Moreno’s “Understanding the Kaleidoscopic Design of the Heterotopia,” which is under the Canvas Course Reader heading in Modules:

“The East-West City & Literary Concept” (pages 13-16)
For your Posting, discuss how the Driouch family has shifted back to their roots and began practicing Islam again. Consider the more overt and convert details and references that demonstrate how the Western life the family has led in the Spanish city of Barcelona collides, coexists, and/or coalesces with their Moroccan culture. How does this readopted behavior play out for different characters? In what ways does this East-West cross-overs attempt to draw these worlds together? Review the list of characteristics on page 6 of “Understanding the Kaleidoscopic Design of the Heterotopia” and consider if you see parallels between any of those characteristics and what is occurring in this scene. Since other students are familiar with this scene, don’t summarize it. Rather, just spend your time presenting and explaining your interpretation and perspectives of the ideas and explain why these insights are significant. That will build your analysis.
