Prepare and present a 2 – 3 minute speech, selecting ONE of the topics below:
(1) Define and discuss self-presentation (reference learning module 2 and OER textbook chapter 2). Site examples from the internet and media for correct and incorrect strategies that public figures have chosen in the past.
(2) Tell us about your culture by analyzing the role that communication plays in your culture. As a part of your speech, you need to define and explain your personal, social, and cultural identity. Define intercultural communication competence and how this impacts interpersonal communication in relationships. Reference learning module 6 and OER chapter 8 as a guide for your planning.
(3) Discuss the use of verbal vs. nonverbal messages in your own culture. Are there differences in listening behaviors within your own culture between genders? Would individuals outside your culture have difficulty understanding the communication patterns within your own culture? Use learning modules 3,4, and 5 and OER textbook chapters 3,4, and 5 to assist your research.
This speech is worth 20% of your grade (100 points per BB Learn tracking). You need to organize your presentation by creating a full-sentence outline. Once you have created this, transform your outline into a key word outline, containing key words only. You will submit your outline, along with a word document that has a LINK to your speech. Please read and use the attached instructions for recording and uploading your speech.
