Potential Solutions
Choose a policy or program intervention that seeks to remedy some aspect of the garbage problem. Drawing on
course material and at least 3 course concepts, critically analyze the possibilities and limitations of this potential
solution. Some examples include, but are not limited to, the zero waste movement, policies (e.g., plastic bans,
extended producer responsibility laws, the Basel Convention), or environmental justice movements (choose a specific one). In your essay, respond to the following question: What benefits does this intervention promise, and what would it take for it to be successful? In your essay, you should describe how specifically this policy or program would change
the existing system. Feel free to include images to describe the issue you are discussing.
Guidelines:
– You should include a minimum of 3 course readings in your essay. You may also cite lectures and media in
addition to these.
– Your paper should be structured around a thesis statement that answers the question above
– References are required can be done in any style, but they must be complete and consistent. (Preferably ASA)
– You may use outside sources, but be sure to cite them
– Your essays should be between 1,200-1,700 words (about 5 to 7 double-spaced pages)
– Late policy: papers will be marked down by a full letter grade for each day they are late
