Please take some time to reflect on your undergraduate career, as well as the specific questions posed by this course (see below) You might recall course and /or instructors that had a significant impact on you, but feel free to organize this essay as it seems best for you. There is no template because this assessment is completely personal. There is no wrong answer. However, I do expect you to seriously consider this important intellectual and reflective challenge. Essays should be 6-8 pages in length (please write more if you wish) and should contain relevant passages from any texts, especially our text.
Here are some quotes related to the capstone course in general. Food for thought.
“Students integrate learning in the major and in the CORE, and connect academic learning with life, career, and citizenship…”
“The capstone…integrates disciplinary learning with general education and the perspectives of other disciplines. As the concluding experience, the capstone provides opportunities for students to think about their education at USM, especially in their major, thatt informs their future academic, professional and personal lives.”
Here are the relevant questions posed by this course.
How would you explain your philosophical (epistemological, ontological and axiological) stance? Remember, your stance on these three philosophical questions should correlate with your “theoretical neighborhood(s)” – one or more of the seven traditions mentioned by Craig – semiotic , phenomenological, social-psychological, cybernetic, sociocultural, critical, and rhetorical. You may recall that some of the traditions are more scientific and while others are more humanistic. Which neighborhood(s) do you live in? Also, which specific theories did you think we’re the most useful? Why? Do you have any favorites?
Use the textbook Theories of Human Communication (2021) 12th Edition by Stephen Littlejohn, Karen Foss, and John Oetzel to connect the capstone essay. Use the textbook but no outside sources.
