One goal of this course on health assessment is to acknowledge the experience you bring to it and help you examine that experience, interpret it, learn from it, and/or stretch your thinking in ways that advance your nursing skills.

One goal of this course on health assessment is to acknowledge the experience you bring to it and help you examine that experience, interpret it, learn from it, and/or stretch your thinking in ways that advance your nursing skills. This course also puts priority on addressing aspects of nursing that are inevitable yet can be inherently challenging. For this Assignment, the focus is responding to an abnormal finding during a physical assessment. You are encouraged to draw from your own experience, but your focus case may also be one with which you are familiar from a colleague or other professional. As you bring this experience to mind, consider these details: How was the abnormality found? How was it determined to be abnormal? How was the finding shared with the patient? What were the next steps for diagnosis and/or treatment? How did—or could—applying course concepts such as person-centered care, awareness of implicit bias, emotional intelligence in patient interactions, and cultural competence improve the patient experience and potentially patient outcomes? As you identify these and other details, consider the value of a resource for professional nurses that addresses those questions and provides clear guidance and advice. You will create that resource in the form of a PowerPoint presentation to share with colleagues in a practice setting that discusses identifying an abnormality during a physical assessment of a patient.
