NRNP 6665 WEEK 3 ASSIGNMENT 2 – STUDY PLAN
Study Plan
I have a solid foundation in psychiatric assessment, mental status examination, and recognition of common mental health conditions such as depressive and anxiety disorders. Therapeutic communication and suicide risk assessment also represent areas of strength. These skills support accurate patient evaluation and appropriate clinical decision-making in psychiatric practice. However, additional review is needed in psychopharmacology, particularly medication mechanisms, adverse effects, and treatment considerations across different populations. Differential diagnosis also requires continued study because several psychiatric conditions present with overlapping symptoms. I recognize that strengthening knowledge of medication management and diagnostic comparison will improve clinical reasoning and support safer treatment planning in psychiatric practice.
Reflection on the testing experience also highlighted the importance of careful interpretation of complex clinical scenarios. Case-based questions require evaluation of symptom presentation, illness duration, and level of functional impairment. Organized reasoning is necessary when analyzing psychiatric conditions with similar features. I also realized that reviewing the full clinical picture before selecting a diagnosis is essential for accurate decision-making. Practicing structured approaches when analyzing psychiatric cases will strengthen diagnostic reasoning. Strategies such as identifying key symptoms, reviewing DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria, and comparing potential diagnoses will support improved clinical judgment. Continued exposure to psychiatric case studies during the quarter will reinforce these skills and strengthen the ability to evaluate patient presentations during psychiatric assessment.
A structured study plan will guide preparation during the quarter.
- Goal 1: Strengthen knowledge of psychiatric medication management within eight weeks. Study tasks include reviewing medication classes such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, anxiolytics, and stimulants three times each week. Progress will be measured through weekly pharmacology quizzes and review notes summarizing medication mechanisms, indications, and side effects.
- Goal 2: Improve diagnostic reasoning within ten weeks through review of two psychiatric case studies each week. These case reviews will focus on identifying symptom patterns and comparing disorders with overlapping features. Progress will be measured through written case summaries and discussion with peers or faculty.
- Goal 3: Improve consistency in weekly study habits by completing three structured study sessions each week for the entire quarter. Progress will be measured through a study log documenting topics reviewed and key learning points.
Several resources will support completion of these goals. Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner review textbooks provide organized summaries of psychiatric disorders and treatment approaches. Online learning platforms and practice question banks offer opportunities to apply knowledge through clinical scenarios. Participation in a peer study group can support discussion of complex psychiatric cases and strengthen understanding through collaborative learning. Mnemonics and flashcard systems can also assist with memorization of medication mechanisms, diagnostic criteria, and treatment approaches. Additional learning tools include professional psychiatric practice guidelines and educational lectures. Using a combination of these resources will support steady knowledge development and reinforce clinical reasoning skills throughout the quarter (American Psychiatric Association, 2022; Sadock et al., 2023; Stahl, 2023).

nrnp 6665 week 3 assignment 2 – Study Plan
Based on your practice exam question results from Week 2, identify strengths and areas of opportunity and create a tailored study plan to use throughout this course to help you prepare for the national certification exam. This will serve as an action plan to help you track your goals, tasks, and progress. You will revisit and update your study plan in NRNP 6675, and you may continue to refine and use it until you take the exam.

WEEKLY RESOURCES
To Prepare
- Reflect on your practice exam question results from Week 2. Identify content-area strengths and opportunities for improvement.
- Also reflect on your overall test taking. Was the length of time allotted comfortable, or did you run out of time? Did a particular question format prove difficult?
The Assignment
- Based on your practice test question results, and considering the national certification exam, summarize your strengths and opportunities for improvement. Note: Your grade for this Assignment will not be derived from your test results but from your self-reflection and study plan.
- Create a study plan for this quarter to prepare for the certification exam, including three or four SMART goals and the tasks you need to complete to accomplish each goal. Include a timetable for accomplishing them and a description of how you will measure your progress.
- Describe resources you would use to accomplish your goals and tasks, such as ways to participate in a study group or review course, mnemonics and other mental strategies, and print or online resources you could use to study.
By Day 7 of Week 3
Submit your study plan.
NOTE: You will save a graded copy of this assignment to submit in your NRNP 6675 course.
