One thing that I would use for my nurses would be self scheduling. I have worked at two different hospitals and I found it to be more challenging when I was not allowed to self schedule. Self scheduling allows nurses in one unit to put their own schedules in giving major flexibility to many nurses. Another great advantage of self scheduling is that the nursing staff handles moving people around vs. having the unit manager do it which allows for more nurses to get their request off (Rizany et al., 2019).
