Midterm Instructions
Please choose one (1) of the following questions to answer for this assignment. Once you have chosen, you will craft a well-developed essay that completely addresses the question.
Your essay must be a total of at least 3 pages minimum (12 point font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, standard 1″ margins).
You do not need a header or title page. Please note that 3 pages is the minimum that you must submit; you are encouraged to develop your arguments further in order to full answer the question. Remember that unused space at the top of a paper for a header takes away from your final page count.
Essays that are less than the minimum length will automatically lose two letter grades (-20%).
Papers without in-text citations as evidence are technically considered plagiarism. Cite your sources.
Late papers will lose a letter grade per day they are late (-10%)
While writing your essay, please keep in mind that I am expecting them to have an introduction paragraph with a clear/strong thesis, body paragraphs with in-text citations, and a conclusion paragraph.
Please only use sources from our course including the textbook, lecture, module readings/videos; do not use any outside sources. As a reminder, you must cite your sources using in-text citations. These can be in the form of footnotes (Chicago style) or MLA format is fine.
You do not need a works cited/bibliography page.
Plagiarism
You will be submitting your essays via Turnitin.com which automatically cross-references papers for plagiarism. Plagiarism is taking credit (not citing) any work or ideas that are not your own. It is cheating. Students who have plagiarized will receive a 0 on their midterm and be referred to the proper disciplinary channels. Write your own papers and you will be fine. I have very little sympathy for cheaters.
The Questions
How has the environment (including, but not limited to: geography, plants, animals, climate change) impacted societies in the eras that we have discussed thus far in class?
Take two of the civilizations we have studied thus far in class an explain each of their successes and failures. Additionally, make a claim as to which society addressed its challenges more effectively.
Please choose one civilization that we have discusses thus far and explain how religion and/or trade helped shape that society. How did it develop? Did it aid or hinder that society? What were the lasting legacies of it?
While our textbook has remained relatively gender neutral, the implicit focus has always been on men. Please chose one of the societies that we have discusses thus far and explain how women experience life in that society. Please make sure to rely on the sources provided to support your claims.
