Project: Nursing Informatics Pioneers

 

One of the major drivers in recent health care reform legislation is the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act’s (ARRA) HiTech Incentive. This act, passed in 2009, earmarked $22 billion for the adoption of electronic health records (EHRs), with a goal of 100% adoption in all practice settings by the year 2014. The HiTech Act provides an example of the pivotal role that health information technology plays in delivering quality health care services. Yet, health information technology is a relatively new field. This Application Assignment provides an opportunity for you to examine the contributions of pioneers in this arena and consider how their contributions have influenced health informatics and nursing

practice today.

Review the biographies and video presentations of pioneers of interest to you or hold a position you aspire to achieve.
Select three (3) nursing informatics pioneers and conduct further research on their

contributions.

Consider how their contributions have influenced health information technology and

nursing practice today.

 

To complete:

 

Write a scholarly 4 to 5-page paper comparing three (3) nursing informatics pioneers.

Use the bullets below as a guide when addressing each NI pioneer:

What are the professional accomplishments of each individual?
How have their contributions influenced nursing practice?
How have their contributions shaped the field of nursing informatics?

Synthesis:

Please provide a summary by highlighting each NI pioneer’s overall contributions and their impact on nursing informatics.
What lessons can you take away from their experiences?
What skills or ideas demonstrated by these leaders might you apply to your

professional practice?

 

Guidelines and Rubric:

 

Must address all components and elements for each section to achieve the maximum points possible.
Must be written in APA 7th edition format and include a title page, running head, and a reference page. No abstract is required.
You may use the first person “I.”
Must be a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of five (5) total pages, excluding title and reference pages
Must have at least five various peer-reviewed nursing journal references besides your textbooks. The journal references must be within the past 5 years.
Submit this in BB by Monday July 25 week 12 no later than 11:59 PM under Assignment.
Your paper will be graded using SafeAssign.

Your paper should not have a >15% Originality Report score (excludes Title and Reference pages).
An originality report scoring between >15 – 40% will not be graded and must be resubmitted.

Resubmission must be done before the due date to avoid a late submission penalty.

An originality report scoring >40% will be automatically marked as zero “0.”
