Kodak was founded in 1888 and was the market leader in photographic film throughout the 20th century. They produced the “Kodak moment” tagline. Kodak was scared to innovate and did not embrace technological advancements. In 1975, they developed the first digital camera but dropped the product due to fear of it cannibalizing their photographic film monopoly. Digital photography then took over, and Kodak’s rivals, including Fuji, managed to outlive the former photo kings. Kodak filed for bankruptcy in 2012, re-emerging in 2013, much smaller and focusing on serving commercial clients.
