Instructions: Your essay should be at least four paragraphs long (six sentences in each paragraph); this is two full pages with the Works Cited on the third page. You should include your name, the date, the class, and the instructor’s name on the top left-hand side of your first page. Your second, third, and additional pages should each contain your last name and page number in the upper right-hand corner. Your essay should have an introduction, a thesis as the last sentence of the introduction, a body, and a conclusion (see page 3 of this assignment for a way to outline your essay). You will also want to pay attention to grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Do not trust grammar check to find all of your errors.
You will need to quote at least once from “Theme For English B”, use an in-text citation and provide a Works Cited at the end (all assignments must have a Works Cited this semester). When quoting lines of poetry be sure to use the virgule or / to indicate the poet’s intended line breaks. Step Three: Answer this prompt based on the links you read above:
Tell your own story about a struggle or realization you had in an English class. How do you define yourself as a student because of this experience? What do you know to be true? Finally, refer to Langston Hughes’s poem “Theme for English B” in your essay as a comparison to your narrative.
