In an exploration into how language teachers motivate and encourage students in their post-primary school language acquisition: Masters in Education Post Primary Thesis, DCU, Ireland

In an exploration into how language teachers motivate and encourage students in their post-primary school language acquisition, I aim to explore the variety of factors affecting the classroom environment in the teaching and learning of Modern Foreign Languages, Gaeilge, and English. Specifically, what methodologies work best in various language classrooms and are these methodologies transferrable? I am interested in the various approaches to teaching and learning in language classrooms that effect the attitudes students possess towards these subjects.

Are issues with concentration and student efficacy apparent across similar topics in the teaching of languages? Can practitioners of MFL learn from methodologies used in Gaeilge classrooms? I aim to examine motivating factors/ the syllabi across these subjects and learn from students and teachers what they believe works best academically and personally, taking into consideration a variety of factors such as class size, CBA, the cultural mix and gender of students and the culture of the school.
