In 2009, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) published the results of its review of the state of forensic science in the United States. It opened up a dialogue that continues today in terms of how we, as a nation, might improve our ability to use forensics in the pursuit of justice. The study cut across every discipline within the forensic universe, from crime scenes, to DNA analysis, to the coroner/medical examiner system in the U.S.
The importance of the NAS report cannot be overstated. Its impact has been profound. Using the NAS report as one source, prepare a paper that discusses the following issues:
What is the current state of forensic science in the United States in terms of its impact on criminal investigation and prosecution of criminal offenses?
Describe what you feel is the most significant challenge facing the forensic laboratory system in the U.S.
As a Christian, what can you do, as a participant in the criminal justice system, to overcome the challenges discussed in the 2009 NAS report?
