Assignment Task
Summary
Conflict and containment can place both consumers and staff at risk of harm. The safewards model is an evidence-based model which aims at reducing conflict and containment. The new Victorian Mental Health Act (The Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022) also recognises the lack of therapeutic benefit of seclusion and restraint and proposes their elimination in mental health care provision. The recovery orientated model also advocates for patients to set their own care priorities and to live a meaning life of their choice.
The aim of this assessment is to examine literature on the Safewards model and recovery framework and how their implementation can reduce conflict and restrictive practices. The essay also aims at examining the use of self as a therapeutic tool when working with consumers living with a mental illness.
