Use the following guide to organize your work. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY as this assignment has
many layers!
a. Begin by conducting a Review of the Literature (10%) (NOT AN ANNOTATED
BIBLIOGRAPHY- see Appendix 4 for an explanation of the difference) on the assigned practice model.
In your research, identify the techniques, populations used, practice contexts, and/or DSM diagnosis this
particular model appears to be effective based on empirical evidence. Next, identify a population or
practice context to examine more in depth for your case study. Your case must include a DSM diagnosis
and an at-risk population. An example would be using EMDR with a veteran, who has been diagnosed
with PTSD. It is imperative that your intervention is relevant to the population you choose to write about
in your case study. Please watch the Zoom link explaining the Literature Review posted below and read
the article in the Resources section of the LMS.
b. Conduct further review of the literature to identify the specific skill sets and/or techniques unique to
your assigned practice model, as well as salient practice issues for working with clients in your chosen
population. You will want to conduct further research as needed. Ultimately, you will use your case
scenario (see below) to demonstrate advanced practice skills of your practice model. Ideally this
assignment should flow nicely with your major assignment in theory class. Include in your review an
assessment tool you would use in this case. Include the tool if you have permission, if you cannot find
one that is free, explain what you would use and why. (see Objectives 11 and 13)
You must have at least 5 recent, scholarly (i.e., peer-reviewed publications) sources outside of classroom
materials. At least one must provide critical commentary on the model’s effectiveness (e.g., why it is not
the best model, not ethical or not culturally competent, a cautionary note, limitations, challenges, etc.).
Combine your Literature Review with your own critical thinking to consider the implications for social
work practice. Be sure to consider any cultural diversity and/or ethical issues associated with the model
or working with the population. It would be difficult to complete a thorough Lit Review in less than 4 full
pages.
