Objective(s) and Learning Outcomes
The purpose of the assessment is to assess the students on their ability to prepare a business report
collaboratively in a workplace. Collaborative report writing is a feature of many work-place
communications. Groups work on various business requirements and report back their findings.
This task will help the students to expand their thinking through reading and sharing ideas.
The following Learning Outcomes are assessed:
• Deliver effective business presentations in appropriate contexts, develop effective
interpersonal communication and use technology for productivity as required.
• Provide feedback, accept feedback and use feedback to improve communication skills.
• Prepare business documents that are grammatically correct and use appropriate business
style.
Requirements
As an aspiring IT professional in Australia your career success journey requires a clear-eyed
understanding of the Australian business environment and culture. The primary objective of this
research project is to provide a forum for students to investigate and understand the Australian
workplaces as it is being applied in the real world to realize organizational objectives.
For this assignment, the students will work in teams of maximum of TWO (2) members to
research and prepare an academic report and a video presentation or in class presentation on any
one (1) of the following topics.
1. Australian Workplace Culture
2. Mediated communication
3. Workplace Cross Cultural Communication
4. Ethical Business Communication
Students are required to present their findings through the following:
• Group Report
• Group Presentation

Group Report
The final research report will take the form of an academic report of approximately 1500 – 2000
words not including references. Your report should present as a collective effort, not a series of
submissions by various team members. It is expected to FLOW as one document. Each team
member’s contribution should be clearly identified in the report, with a notation about which
section he/she wrote about.
The structure of your final academic report should include the following:
• Title page
• Executive Summary
• Table of Contents
• Introduction – general overview of the purpose this report (100 words)
• Significance – Illustrate the importance of the chosen topic in Australian workplace (300
– 500 words)
• Discussion – In depth discussion of the topic using evidence of research from literature.
Use suitable examples and visuals (700 – 1000 words)
• Major findings and recommendations – Present major findings of your research and
provide some recommendations to your classmates (300 words).
• Conclusion – Summarize your report (100 words)
• Reference list – IEEE style
Group Presentation
Each team’s presentation is expected to take between 15 to 20 minutes. All team members must
contribute almost equally to the presentation, and each team member’s contribution must be
clearly indicated in the presentation plan that is submitted to the lecturer.
For this assessment task you are required to prepare the PowerPoint slides (max 10 slides) and a
video presentation (or present in the class if situation changes). The recommended structure for
the project presentation is as follows:
Introduce your team members
Introduction – Provide a general overview of the chosen topic

Conclude your presentation by summing up and giving time for questions.
Reference list – IEEE style
Submissions
Each group is required to submit a business report and a video presentation and presentation
PPTs via the given link on LMS. Each team member’s contribution must be clearly indicated in all
submissions. Use 1.5 spacing with a 12-point Time New Roman font. Referencing of sources is
mandatory and must be in the IEEE style.
Note that the report will be a turn-it-in submission and as such you will be provided with a
similarity score. This will be taken into account when grading the assignment. If your similarity
score is high you can re-submit your report, but re-submissions are only allowed up to the due
date. If you submit your assignment after the due date re-submissions will not be allowed.
Late Submission
All work is due by the due date and time. Late submissions will be penalized at the rate of 10%
per day including weekends.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the presentation of the expressed thought or work of another person as though it is one’s
own without properly acknowledging that person. You must not allow other students to copy your work
and must take care to safeguard against this happening. Note that incidents of plagiarism will be
penalized as per the HE policies.
