For your reaction papers, consider the themes discussed so far this semester: globalization, political economy, gender, poverty, social justice and social change, colonialism and decolonization, etc. In your papers you should respond to the documentary’s discussion of the relationship between your perceptions of the causes of Central American migration versus the story depicted in the film. You should also say something about how this film confirmed or disconfirmed some of your assumptions about politics the politics of migration. Who were the main players/actors (political parties, politicians, other groups, and of course, the US involvement? Use your texts from class, especially The Migrant Passage. I have also done an interview with the author that is available in the video lecture section for this module. You may find this useful and/or interesting. Refer back to the syllabus for additional recommendations regarding writing but remember that this should be something that you spend some time thinking about. Also: 3-4 pages, double spaced, include a heading with your name, date, title of the film, and reaction paper number. For citation purposes, we watched a film about Juan, Sara, and Samuel, three teenagers from the slums of Guatemala, who travel to the United States in search of a better life. On their journey through Mexico, they meet Chauk, an Indian from Chiapas who doesn’t speak Spanish.
