For example, you may choose to write about class structure or hierarchy of the time period, and use examples from the novel in conjunction with your own research to formulate and support a thesis and main idea. You should have information from three to five outside sources in your final essay, which should be 5 pages and include a works cited list of your sources. Your essay should be size 12 Times New Roman or Arial, and be double-spaced. Avoid plot summary in your essays (first X happened, and then Y, and finally Z), and instead focus on analyzing why the events and examples you use are important to your overall argument (and connect them to the research you are citing). When in doubt, always cite all sources (in quotations, and with references in parentheses to proper authors).
