Discuss the theme of rulership in the imagery of Classic Maya stone sculpture at Tikal, Copan, Palenque, Piedras Negras and Yaxchilán. As you construct your essay, address the following:
1. 1) How are Maya rulers portrayed in sculpted images?
2. 2) What specific activities or rituals associated with rulership can be detected at the various
sites and how are these activities depicted in stone sculpture?
3. 3) What earthly and supernatural roles and responsibilities of Maya rulers are
suggested by certain images?
