Carla is the teacher for the four-year-olds, while Kelly is the teacher for the two-year-olds. Late Monday morning, Carla and Kelly are sharing the outdoor play area with their two groups of children. They are standing at the fence talking about their weekend. Children are on the climber, in the sandbox, bouncing balls off the fence and riding their tricycles on the bike path. A parent entered the playground and dropped off a child following a last-minute doctor appointment. Carla and Kelly continue to talk to one another.

What are some of the potential risks that may occur while Kelly and Carla are catching up in the play area?
What might Kelly and Carla do to reduce the potential risk?

MAKE RESPONSE TO THE ANWSER BELOW
I would approach the situation kindly and ask them to still try to be observant of the kids even when they are talking to one another because we should always be paying attention to the kids.
some of the potential risks that might happen when Kelly and Carla are talking is one kid might get hurt and they may not know unless a kid comes up and tells them. Or they could have missed that he kid who had the doctors appointment showed up and are now confused why there is an extra kid there that wasn’t there before. another possibility is what if a kid ran off and they did not notice for a little bit they would have no clue where that kid could of gone to.
Kelly and Carla could try having that talk later in the day or if it is an important conversation they could ask a another teacher to step out while they talk to each other. Even if they want to talk they can walk laps around the play area to still keep an eye on all the kids and make sure they are all doing what they are supposed to do.
