Assignment Task
The purpose of this assignment is to assess your understanding and ability to analyse and interpret data using Jamovi. You are expected to apply all the knowledge you have learned thus far to analyse these data. At the end of the assignment, you are expected to write a short summary of these findings in layman’s terms. Please submit the answers to all the questions below in a single word document with the relevant Jamovi output pasted at the end of each question.
Dataset: Please download the dataset provided on Canvas. Note: the dataset provided is a simulated version for teaching purposes. The details of the variables are provided below:
- Age (in years)
- Sleep Disturbance. Level of sleep disturbance (range from 28.9 – 76.5; higher score = poorer sleep).
- Level of depressive symptoms (range from 37.1 – 81.1; Score of 60 and above indicates high levels of depressive symptoms)
- Level of anxiety symptoms (range from 37.1 – 83.1)
- Average sleep duration per night before receiving nutritional supplement (in hours).
- Average sleep duration per night after receiving nutritional supplement (in hours).
You are a data analyst for this project – Sleep and Health Project. Your role is to analyse collected dataset and provide evidence to help the main investigator make informed decisions.
Question 1
Current evidence suggests that individuals diagnosed with depression experience significantly poor sleep quality (Yan et al., 2021). The main investigator is interested to know whether the current sample is similar to the results reported by Yan and colleagues (2021). You are requested to examine whether there are any differences in sleep disturbance levels between individuals with low vs high levels of Depressive symptoms.
- Conduct any data management and checks needed for this analysis. You are required to write a short statement with justifications on the steps that you have taken for any management/checks.
- Report the descriptive statistics (select 3 most relevant descriptive statistics) of the data that you have analysed in APA formatting — both table and write up. Note, the write up should be succinct, and you must create your own Table.

The main investigator is also interested in comparing whether the current sample’s average anxiety levels differed from the general population. According to the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), the average population score is 50.
