1. The landscape of higher education is changing for many reasons including advances in information technology, the changing economic climate, and a very different job market from the one that existed decades ago. As a result, the approach to how to design am academic plan of study can look very different. Use this backdrop to discuss ONE of the following:
STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) courses and degree programs are imminently valuable in the world that we live and work in. Write an argument to freshmen college students about their choices of majors and courses. Should they major in STEM programs? Should they follow their hearts? Should they pursue a well-rounded collection of courses? Etc.
Write an argument in which you evaluate the value of a liberal arts education over one that is more directed toward the STEM areas. Or you can take the opposite stance.
2. In the post-pandemic world, there are many leftover effects that have nothing to do with the actual disease including inflation, a need for workers in many low-paying jobs, and supply-chain interruptions. Most recently, baby formula has been scarce, and many mommies have been scavenging stores in search of food for their children. A man near McMinnville, Tennessee is growing his own food and raising fish in a small pool in his backyard to avoid inflation of grocery prices. Choose one of the three problems above (inflation, shortages, or employment deficiency), and write a proposal argument to solve some aspect of the problem. Do not try to solve the whole problem, but be much. More specific and discuss a specific change that could be made to deal with the fallout of the problem.
