DIRECTIONS:

·       Choose a topic, fact, or area of interest from Modules 4-7 of the textbook and explore it more in depth.  

·       Further exploration can involve reading a scientific research article related to the topic, discovering new information from a book on the topic, reading an interesting viewpoint of an online author, or finding an online video clip that relates to the topic.  This post must include new information (DO NOT JUST RESHARE SOMETHING LEARNED FROM THE BOOK OR POWERPOINTS) and you are not to use Wikipedia.  Share your findings with the class.  MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE REFERENCE (link to website, author and title of article, name of musician and lyrics, etc.).

·       Your original post must be least 250 words (or approximately 3-4 paragraphs).  Your responses to other learners should go beyond “I agree” or “I disagree.”  You should also do more than simply copy from a website.  That is plagiarism.  Share what you learned from each source in your own words and include your opinion on what you learned.  How does this material relate to class? Did it contradict or supplement anything from class?  Do you agree or disagree with it? Each original post is worth 30 points and your responses are worth 5 points. 

What to make sure to include in your posts analyzing outside material:

·       Include a link to the source.  If it is not an online source, please provide important identifying information (e.g. title and author of a book, title of the film, title and author of newspaper article)

·       Provide a full summary of the material in your own words that demonstrates you spent time reading/viewing it.  Don’t just post the link.  Only rely on direct quotations when material absolutely can’t be rephrased.

·       Provide your opinion of the source.  Did you like it? Was there anything that contradicted what you learned?

·       State whether you feel the source is valid and explain why you believe this way.  For example, a scientific journal article would be more valid than a Buzzfeed article.
