It is used to enhance and improve efficiency, communication, and instruction. According to Simonson, Zvacek & Smaldino (2019, p. 280), “At the very heart of the distance education administrator’s responsibility is the matter of readiness – institutional readiness, faculty readiness, and student readiness.” In this assignment, you will assess the current status of distance education in your workplace by talking with the person who is charged with that leadership. The program maybe distance education courses for K–Higher Education students, professional learning for staff, online training for an organization,or other distance education training situations.
Plan your interview using these broad topics:
Current status of the distance education program – What is the scope of the program?
What are the strengths and challenges of the program today?
Institutional readiness – Was it challenging to launch a distance education program? Are resources readily available and appropriate? What road blocks to implementation/expansion currently exist?
Faculty/Instructor/Trainer readiness – Has it been difficult to staff distance education programs? What has been done to encourage traditional instructors to prepare for and embrace distance education? What feedback do you get from distance education instructors regarding their experiences and recommendations for improvement? Student/employee readiness–Who is the audience for the distance education program? Has enrollment increased overtime? What feedback do you get from distance education learners regarding their experience and recommendations for improvement?
Looking Ahead – Is innovation encouraged and supported by institutional/organizational policies?
What trends do you see on the horizon for the distance education program?
Your completed assignment should include: the required cover page, a brief introduction of your interviewee,and a summary of your conversation regarding the 5 bulleted topics above. The paper should be 7 pages (including the cover page).
