As we explore population health, it is important to view the “patient” as the group served versus the individual. For example, the group served may be a community or a specific population that has been identified. It could also be for all people, which would be the group served via public health interventions. Understanding the group as the “patient” helps us to develop a broader lens and perspective that encompasses all the elements of population health. It also assists us as we explore the role of the nurse in population health.
